He was a pretty big goddamn deal at Purdue. We have an entire building named after him, complete with a statue and replica imprints of his footsteps on the moon. When the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering opened at Purdue, he came and was a big part of the ceremony.
The building was built while I was at Purdue, and my roommate and I liked to walk through the building. We once decided to snap a picture of us “meeting” Neil Armstrong.
I’m sad he’s gone, but he led a very long, interesting life.
